I painted our two dogs: Zoey, a Mexican hairless and Tina, a Chinese Crested.

They both had the habit of looking around the corner of the door before entering my studio.

It was a pose they designed. I just put them together.

I added side light flowing through the orchid which gives this painting a special feeling of sunlight and makes the orchid come to life.

Side lighting in still life oil painting is the premier technique for creating dramatic contrast, depth, and three-dimensional form by illuminating about three-quarters of the subject.

Orchid & Sunshine is currently on display at Beverly McNeil Gallery in Birmingham, Alabama.
