When you are taking pictures for a portrait and your granddaughter asks to be included, there is only one answer,

"YES!"

The connection and love between them made for a special moment and portrait.

I Love the designs and patterns of Navajo Pottery and Textiles. They depict expressions of history, spirituality, and a connection to the land and its people.

With laughter bright, a vibrant soul,
A force of nature, strong and true,
In every glance, a smile anew.

A REFRESHING PORTRAIT!

It was a delight to meet the former CEO of Coca-Cola, Frank Harrison and his wife, Jan.

The portrait is for the Foundation for the Carolinas, Charlotte, NC.

The whole experience was fun, and we toasted the painting at the unveiling with, of course, a Coca-Cola.

Thank you to Portraits, Inc. & Mary Margaret Underwood for this wonderful commission.

The painting reminds me of one of my favorite quotes that my daughter LIZ gave me when she was a teenager.

She said, “You know Daddy, paintings aren’t really about reality, they’re more about dreams and memories.”

When I work with children, I like to pepper them with questions, so they are momentarily distracted. Simple questions like, "What is your favorite food, color, game, or movie." While they are thinking of the answer, they relax and give me natural expressions. An engaging expression makes a more real and honest portrait.

Back lighting a subject, especially a blonde, with a little sunlight coming over the shoulder has always been one of my favorites. Sunshine just makes me happy and feel alive.

When young people are heading off to college it’s the perfect time to paint a portrait.

It’s that special passage when they’re leaving childhood behind and starting those first years of adult life,  a true milestone and so fun to capture.

Where grace meets beauty, magic happens.
